A Red Sea hotel can be the starting point for a Luxor excursion, but the departure city and chosen route make a substantial difference. Compare the Hurghada-to-Luxor West Bank tour with the Marsa Alam-to-Luxor temples and tombs tour by their stops and full travel time.
From Hurghada: focus on the West Bank
The selected Hurghada product lists the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut Temple and the Colossi of Memnon. Karnak is not on this particular route. Its duration is around 14–16 hours, with a sample 05:00 pickup and 19:00 return. The current inclusions cover private transport, an Egyptologist guide, the standard three-tomb ticket, Hatshepsut admission, lunch and bottled water.
From Marsa Alam: Karnak and royal tombs
The Marsa Alam route adds Karnak before the West Bank visits. It is listed at 16–18 hours, with a sample departure at 03:00 and return around 21:00. Included services cover private transport and guiding, Karnak admission, a three-tomb Valley of the Kings ticket, Hatshepsut admission, the Colossi stop, lunch and water. The page states that there are no forced shopping stops.
Standard tombs and special admission
Both selected products exclude Tutankhamun’s tomb, which needs an additional ticket. Do not read “Valley of the Kings included” as admission to every tomb. Ask which standard tombs are available for the visit and request a quotation for any special admission you want.
Transfers, documents and extras
Give the exact hotel address before confirming the travel schedule. The Marsa Alam page asks for a clear passport copy for permits; the Hurghada page says valid identification may be required. Use the team’s agreed booking channel for documents. Lunch drinks, gratuities, personal spending and optional unlisted activities are excluded; breakfast is also excluded on the Marsa Alam product.
When a longer stay is a better fit
